love_my_family asked:
I have to register my 2 year old for preschool for fall and you have to get there an hour early because the class fills up quick. I have no one to watch her. Any tips for what to bring so my daughter won’t be too upset having to wait with me? I’m bringing a stroller and I thought maybe I’d put out a little blanket with toys where I’m standing.

Bring snacks, too. And you might try grabbing something new that she hasn’t seen before if you think you will be waiting a crazy long time. A new sparkly toy with beeps and music might be awesome enough to distract her for a long time.

What time is it at? It would be the best if it were around your her nap time. Then she could just sleep in the stroller. If not, bring a lot of things to do, eat, etc. but hold out on giving them to her until it is really needed.

I took my girls to Disneyland, and there are lines everywhere. I suggest taking the stroller, and a sippy cup of juice. Depends on your child, but having something to drink keeps my daughter happy. Give her a toy to play with, but if you let her out, your child will probably just want to run around.
Try to keep your child in the stroller, bring a sippy cup of something to drink. Also bring something like goldfish crackers, or a mix of something to chew on. Works for me, hopefully it works for you.

best bet is to bring along a wagon of some sort that you can roll along with her in it, put toys in it for her to play with. Bigger than a stroller but more portable than a blanket on the floor.
Also you dont know what condition the floor is going to be in, so you might not want her playing on it, even if on a blanket.

When my son was 2 I would play games with my soon like finding different shapes or colors. It keeps them entertained and helps them learn new things. He is now 5 and anytime we are waiting somewhere he still wants to play Eye Spy.
BUT, If that didn’t work I would always have snacks, coloring books & crayons just in case.

two year old have you now, a a short attention span! i suggest bring picture books and a few favorite toys. my two year old brother loves music! so he found an old CD player one day, and on long trips to like the grocery store, he listens to his music and is no trouble! and he sings its the cutest thing!

its the same for most parents- in a line, in an airport what to do.!!! just got back from europe and there was a lot of hanging around at the airport . if they can sleep through it great, but if not bring some food just in case. Cheerios in a baggy is good.big bottle of water is best. my 2 yr. old likes cheap cars and planes and just holds then and makes noises. a pad of paper and a pencil keeps them occupied but don’t bring too much otherwise you are hurrying to gather up everything. an hour isn’t too long and i hope it passes quickly:) . 2 year olds are liable to run off to other places so just get the child to interact with other children that might be in line.

If she has any favourite books bring those along too. Most kids love to look at board books and have stories read to them.

stroller, snacks and drinks, a book maybe? Mine are pretty good and if she gets too frustrated, I let her walk around. She doesn’t go far since she is shy, but it keeps her quiet and calm

snacks
small toys
books
a blanket
and be prepared to pick her up and hold her and pay attention to her, because eventhough you have the best of intentions, she may not want any of the stuff you bring.

There will be many more kids in the line with you so she should be no problem. I would think that a new toy to distract her and some snacks should be enough to keep her busy.
Good luck getting the class you want…….

Will the blanket and toys be for you? LOL, just kidding, but a 2 year old can’t be expected to stay on a blanket and play when there will be lots to get into and probably other children around. If you can, get her a new toy beforehand, or even a new coloring book and colors and dont’ give them to her until she starts to get a little bored. You can take the blanket, and if there are other kids around, you can invite them to sit and play with your daughter. Take a few legos, a new book, or even something new like markers (washable!) for her to use.
Definitely take snacks though, and a favorite drink for her, and lots of patience! Expect to let her run around a bit, but of course within limits.

I feel your pain, I have a son with PDD NOS, mildly autistic, and waiting in line is TORTURE! Anyways, what worked for me, is definitely bring the stroller, tons of snacks, books and toys. Leave the stroller at your place in line, and ask the person in back of you to hold your place while you take your toddler for a little stroll around if she gets really restless. But I highly recommend leaving her in the stroller for as long as humanly possible - I know my son did better if he was confined, the minute he was taken out he would want to run around like a madman.
Good luck!!

That’s okay too bring a couple of snacks and maybe a drink. But I would also bring an belt or switch I wouldnt hit them with it but I will make them have that fear.
